USB 3.0 – IDE SATA III adapter QOLTEC 50645

The QOLTEC 50645 USB 3.0 to IDE SATA III Adapter provides a simple way to connect 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives as well as PATA/IDE hard drives to a computer via a USB 3.0 port. Designed for data transfer, backup and recovery tasks, the adapter supports high-speed USB 3.0 throughput and backward compatibility with USB 2.0 ports, enabling direct access to internal drives without installing them in a desktop or laptop chassis.

Advantages

This USB 3.0 to IDE SATA III Adapter combines universal drive compatibility and straightforward plug-and-play operation. It supports both SATA III drives and IDE/PATA devices, allowing fast transfers when connected to a USB 3.0 host. The adapter eliminates the need for additional mounting tools or enclosure installation for short-term access, and it works with common desktop and laptop operating systems for broad interoperability.

Suitable for

When it may not be suitable

This adapter is intended for temporary or occasional direct drive access rather than as a permanent replacement for an external enclosure. For continuous, long-term use or for portable use with physical protection, a dedicated external drive enclosure that provides shock protection, cooling and a fitted case is more appropriate. Very old or unusually configured drives may require specific power adapters or jumpers that are not supplied with the adapter.

Key specifications

How to use

Connect the adapter’s SATA or IDE connector to the target drive, ensuring the correct orientation of the data and power connectors. If connecting a 3.5" drive, attach the external power supply to the adapter before powering the drive. Plug the USB connector into an available USB 3.0 port on your computer; if only USB 2.0 is available, the adapter will operate at the lower speed. The connected drive should appear as an external storage device in the operating system, allowing file copy, cloning or diagnostic operations using standard software tools.

What to consider before purchase

Recommendations

For data integrity, use stable USB connections and avoid disconnecting the drive while read/write operations are in progress. When working with 3.5" drives, always connect the power adapter before attaching the USB cable to the host. For cloning or large transfers, use a USB 3.0 host and cables to benefit from higher throughput.
